Walchensee E.ON Wasserkraft's Power Plant Experience
Construction Period: More than Five Years
It was Oskar von Miller, who turned his vision of 'electrifying' Bavaria and Bavarian trains into reality with the construction of the Walchensee power plant. On June 21, 1918, the Bavarian parliament passed a resolution to build the power station. January 24, 1924, saw the first turbine rotate. The Walchensee power plant remains one of Germany's largest storage power stations to this day.
Complete Power Plant System
Lake Walchen is fed water from the Isar and Rißbach rivers. The Niedernach (1951) and Obernach (1955) run-of-river power plants were erected at these two feeders. Water from Lake Walchen charges through 450 meters of high-pressure pipes onto the Walchensee power station's turbines. From here, it flows into Lake Kochel.
"Experiencing Lake Walchen is Like Experiencing E.ON"
Nearly 100,000 visitors a year were reason enough for E.ON Wasserkraft to open a new information center to create a special kind of experience. "Experiencing Lake Walchen is Like Experiencing E.ON" was the motto under which the visitor's center was inaugurated in October 2001.
